There's an ongoing mayhem in Owerri, the Imo state capital as the indigenous and traders of Eke-ukwu Owerri are locked in a heated "war" with the state government
Some few months ago the stare government had issued a warning to the traders to vacate from their present location but the defiant traders and the indigenes refused as they took the case to court and secured an injunction
Just as we thought the case was over, news filtered in yesterday that the traders had been given a 24-hour ultimatum to pack and leave.
This morning a major fracas broke out between the traders, indigenes and the law enforcement agents that came to forcefully eject them
As we speak the Ama-Hausa premises in Owerri have been set on fire. So much is going on at the same time with two people dead and several people injured.
As at the time of press the number of casualties could not be ascertained but what we can say for a fact is that the "riot" is still on and there's no end in sight to the unfolding rampage. We will keep you updated as we gather more information
