BREAKING!! NIGERIAN SENATE APPROVES DEATH PENALTY FOR KIDNAPPING

It will no longer be a free reign for kidnappers as the Senate has gone tough on them by going for the death penalty.

 After receiving and debating on a bill on the crime, the Upper House on Thursday approved the death sentence for the offences of abduction, wrongful restraint, or wrongful confinement for a ransom. Across the country, Nigerians have been at the mercy of kidnappers, who abduct, maim and kill their victims even after their families have paid various sums of money as ransom.

 Before approving the capital punishment, the lawmakers went through the clause-by-clause consideration of the report at their plenary session and resolved that the time had come for drastic measures to be taken against the perpetrators of the act. Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP-Enugu) presented the report on behalf of the Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator David Umaru.

The bill was sponsored by Senator Isa Misau (APC-Bauchi).While presenting the report, Senator Utazi said that the bill sought to prescribe stiff punishment for the offence of abduction, wrongful restraint and wrongful confinement for ransom.



 He said that the Bill seeks to combat and prevent any form of kidnapping in Nigeria and wider powers given to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to ensure adequate crackdown on the crime. Clause 1 (3) of the Bill states that “whoever is guilty of the offence that results in the death of the victim shall be liable upon conviction to death.”


 In Clause 5 (2), the Bill stipulates that “anyone who fails to produce any book, account, receipts, vouchers or other doc­uments which is in his possession or control shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding N100,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to both fine and im­prisonment.”


 Clause 3 provides a 30-year jail term to anyone who colludes with an abductor to receive any ransom for the release of any person who has been wrongfully confined. The report was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers after a voice vote put out by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki. The Senate also passed the Bill for the Prohibition and Protection of Persons from Lynching. However, the report of the Committee on Trade and Investment on Counterfeit Goods Bill was stepped down due to technical irregularities.

Rapper 50 Cent rejected $500,000 from Donald Trump to help the president win black votes during the 2016 campaign—joking that even a half-million dollars wasn’t “good enough” for such a cause.

One of the participants of the Wole Soyinka Foundation and Cedars Institute sponsored Study Abroad In Lebanon (SAIL) program, Reverend Sister Mary Emilia Aboekwe, said she has come to the realization that religion will not unite Nigeria hence the need to downplay the presence of religion in the country The Reverend Sister said this on her arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport after a ten-day exchange program in Lebanon where she had the privilege to tour the country and learn about its culture and traditions.

 Sister Aboekwe suggested the teaching of Islamic religion in Christian schools and vice versa, arguing that such will engender better understanding between Muslims and Christians alike. She said both Christians and Muslims worship the same god, and therefore the constant religious conflicts and misunderstandings are needless.

 “After seeing what happened in Lebanon, I came to conclude that religion needs to be downplayed in Nigeria,” she said. “When we come out to discuss the unity of this nation, let us put religion aside, because it will not unite us. We will never be united when we talk of religion. Instead let us all believe that we are all children of God, created by one God.”

A 15 year old teenager, Kabiru Idi has been arrested by the Niger state Police Command for having sex with a goat.

 Idi who lives in Gbeganu area of Bosso Local Government Area of the state was caught having sex with the goat which is said to be one of the animals that roam the neighborhood.


 Suspecting neighbours reported Idi to a the police operatives attached to Kpakungu Division in Minna who following a tip-off got to Idi’s residence to catch him in the act. Neighbours who spoke after the arrest said that this is the second time the suspect has committed the same offence in the area as they stated that they are getting wary of the acts of the teenager expressing fear over his preferences, The Nation learnt.


 The State Police Public Relations Officer, Babalola Adewole who confirmed the incident applauded the operatives attached to Kpakungu police Division on patrol for apprehending the suspect adding that the suspect would be charged to court on conclusion of investigations.  According to a Facebook post by Abigail Gold, one of her friend’s cousins was just murdered by her boyfriend for ritual purposes.

Q: In what year did you get married?
Ans: "I got married on November 16, 1985. Q: How was the crowd like? It was not a very large crowd on that day. I had a moderate wedding. I think we had about two hundred guests maximum. Even back in those days, people used to have elaborate weddings but I just didn’t want a huge wedding."


 Q: What was most memorable about your wedding day?
Ans:  "After getting dressed and was about leaving for the church service, my mum called me to her room and prayed for me and I still remember every word of the prayer. Funny enough, I didn’t cry until when she started crying while I was leaving later in the night and her tears made me cry too.


 Q:  Usually, the bride is always known to be late, were you late to church on your wedding day?
Ans: "I wasn’t early to church; I was right there on time but my husband was two hours late. I didn’t have a sleepless night because I slept very well."



Q: Was there any awkward thing that happened on that day?
Ans:  "Well, apart from my husband arriving two hours late for the church ceremony, there was nothing awkward that happened. Although it got to a point when I was being questioned if he’d still come and I kept saying he would until he showed up. He came late to church because of the bachelor’s eve that they had a night to the wedding; they were all tired and overslept."


Q: Was your wedding gown bought in the country? Ans: "Yes, my wedding gown was made in Nigeria. It was aso-oke. I got married in Lagos. I didn’t have a white wedding because I was not a fan. I wore a blue dress made from aso-oke and lace."



Q: What are the usual things that happened on your wedding day?
Ans: "All those things that happened weren’t my business because my mum and cousins handled all of them. I didn’t allow anything to ruin my day at all."



Q: Can you share with us how you spent your wedding night?
Ans: "Well, yes I slept alone because they were all out partying and I was too tired to stay up with him. I had to sleep early. Although he later came in to sleep next to me, I didn’t even notice when he came in because I was fast asleep. The stress of the day wore me out. I woke up and saw him next to me."

The ladies after enjoying themselves to do their own thing by engaging in lewd scenes which unbeknownst to them was being recorded.

He video is currently in the custody of some young men who have threatened to release it in order to shame the culprits.

A resident who divulged some information on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the new is not surprising because there are so many boys and girls in town who have "changed" their gender through cross-dressing and other actions

"I don't think we should be surprised,  it has been coming, they dress, speak and dance like women when they are not, that is how bad the situation has become"

He charged community leaders not to let them down this town as its the case with several other social vices.
